We have recently been made aware of more concerns about children receiving unwanted attention from men in our area, often whilst going to/from school and this raises the perennial question as to how parents handle this difficult issue with their children.
This is always a difficult balance between our very natural concern to protect them whilst letting them grow their independence.
This time of the year, with dark nights approaching, is particularly stressful and transporting children everywhere by car is not always possible nor perhaps always the answer.
There are some simple things we can all do e.g. always try to walk with a sibling or school-friend – the more the merrier. Also discuss the subject with your children to emphasise the guidance they must follow without scaring them totally.
There is an "Out alone guide Need-to-know: is my child ready to go out alone?" produced by the NSPCC here is the link.
This has some very sensible suggestions by the experts on how to approach this subject

We all wish them to stay safe this winter
