annual general meeting 3

Those of you who know your English grammar, or perhaps just a parent of our new super 6 years olds, may recognise the title of this article as an oxymoron. This is a figure of speech where two apparently contradictory terms appear together. Surely no Annual General Meeting, where the activities of the previous year are put before members or shareholders, can ever be described as Exciting? Even interesting might be a bit of a stretch!

On Tuesday May 10th The Community Centre Committee of Management hope to show that an A.G.M. can be both exciting and interesting. Come along to the Edna Rose room at 7.45 pm to see if they can succeed.

* There will be an announcement about the redevelopment plans, currently straining at the starting post to get going, just one small box still to tick. The Committee will be looking for ideas about using the new bar/lounge area.

* Find out just how the artistic life of the village has flourished over the last year. Are the plays, films and music
the right sort or could the choices be better?

* Realise just how many activities are going on regularly. Are there any others that you think would attract a following? Do you have a skill or an interest you would like to offer to others?

* Find out how income is raised and spent. Much of that income comes from you – is it being used wisely? Should more or less be spent of the building?

* The Community would like to set up a group of occasional volunteers who can help out to do specific jobs. Can you help? Can the current Committee continue for ever?

The Community Centre is one of the key elements that makes the village vibrant, welcoming and friendly. Surveys have shown that people would miss it if it wasn't there.

Would you and your family?

So, the Committee look forward to seeing you on Tuesday for a really exciting A.G.M.!
