april 2017 tarvin woodlands grogans walk

Nestled due east of the Cheshire plain,

There is a place I like to run

In the pretty village of Tarvin

Lies a woodland walk where the sun

Drips gently through delicate leaves of birch

And ash and oak in turn,

A path meanders through meadow and wood

Like a lowland Scottish burn.

The trees are thriving even though

They have a job to do

Silver birch absorbs the bypass exhausts

Trees are good soundproofing too.

A habitat for some rare birds,

A larder for the bats

A super-sniffing adventure for dogs,

and a rich hunting ground for cats

Jim persuaded a team of Tarvinians that

this mass of weeds, nettles and bramble

Would one day be a great place to go

For a pleasant afternoon ramble.

They created a path through the small wilderness

planted some oaks to remember

Those villagers who once laid down their lives

Ere that infamous November

Whether our wish is to stroll or to run,

It offers a tranquil retreat

An occasional neighbourly nod or a wave

and a place for friends to meet.

Dog walkers, hand-holders, running or walking

A couple needing space and fresh air for talking.

Bird watching, bat watching whatever your need

Jim thought of it all, he planted the seed.

Thanks Jim and all the Tarvin Woodland volunteers for your tireless efforts x
