I couldn't feel excited about being reminded that Christmas is just around the corner when I attended the flower club's Christmas meeting in November, however "The Sparkle of Christmas" did encourage me to look forward to the festive season and to pick up some ideas for my own seasonal designs.
I particularly liked the vibrant red, deep pink and orange colours in a parallel design suitable for a fireplace. Unfortunately I don't have a fireplace in my home so cannot copy that idea.
I and 9 others were lucky enough to win arrangements in the raffle. The mince pies were homemade, beautifully decorated and tasted very good too.
All the designs of the evening were packed with flowers and Donald Morgan, from Aberystwyth talked about the varieties of all the types of flower he used including the deep pink Aqua rose, so named because it is the only rose cultivated in water (quiz question perhaps)
Whilst producing his designs he amused us with various stories. The final design was a large pedestal with a smaller one beneath along with a reindeer and parcels which were all illuminated. The stage certainly sparkled and prepared us for a happy Christmas season.
We have no December meeting so the next chance to enjoy an evening of flower arranging in Tarvin will be 14th January 2015 when we welcome Susan Bradley and "The Beauty of Lines"
Visitors are always welcome- do come along.
