Ashton Hayes and Tarvin Flower Club

The length of the Edna Rose room was full of the most wonderful flowers at the end of last evening's (11th May) demonstration.
Our visiting florist, Carole McKenna, from Menai, adores flowers and seems to adore work too as she seems to pack so much into her time. Not only does she do numerous weddings she also does corporate work for the university, runs a very successful shop, demonstrates and teaches.

She recounted funny stories of her work in the shop and also when demonstrating. She recalled the visit to her shop of Kate (when she and Prince William were living in Anglesey). Her arrival at the shop was almost on
closing time, she was not dressed smartly and her hair was worn in a bun so Carole was not sure.
Trying to look at the famous engagement ring was difficult as Kate had long sweater sleeves. Eventually Carole asked "are you who I think you are?" She was told yes which put Carole into a total panic and made her shake, making it difficult to wrap the purchase that Kate had made, so Kate helped her.

Carole did 6 very large designs several of which had a secondary placement. Her choices of colours and colour combinations was fantastic. She gave us the names of all the flowers and foliage as she worked and introduced us to a brand new chrysanthemum with purple outer petals and lime interior- stunning. This was the only flower which she could not name for us.
Her florist shop is called Florabundance and we certainly got that last evening. She is an excellent advertisement for her shop and it's a pity it is too far away for general use.

Our next meeting is a garden visit on 8th June and in July it is our A.G.M.
Please call Merryn (740832) as details of numbers are needed for both meetings.
