Father Christmas visited Tarvin twice in one week, on 13th and 15th December. Children and parents who had heard that he was coming, gathered in large numbers and braved the rain to greet him. Members from the Rotary Club of Tarporley together with local Tarvin volunteers visited almost every house in Tarvin, collecting money for local charities. A diversion was made to the planned route, to the scout hut, much to the delight of the Brownies. However, Father Christmas had to replenish his supply of sweets following the visit!
Local charities supported by Rotary include Tarvin War Memorial Hospital, Claire House, Hope House, and the Neuromuscular Centre as well as national charities such as Children in Need and MacMillan Nurses. The Rotary Club also organises mock interviews for year 11 students at Tarporley High School each year to give them valuable experience to prepare them for real-life interviews. They also sponsor days out to the Petty Pool Outdoor Centre for underprivileged school children.
Rotary is a non-political, non-religious worldwide organisation of 1.2 million members, open to men and women. Tarporley Rotary meets each week at Willington Hall. If you would like to hear more about Rotary or possibly might be interested in becoming a member or a Friend of Rotary, please contact Mike Lloyd, friendsofficer@tarporleyrotary.org.uk.
