Gardeners come in many varieties but the weather at the moment is making it easy for even the most reluctant to enjoy their gardens. Plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and even a certain amount of rain is making life easy for us all to enjoy the outside.

To celebrate this wonderful season, Tarvin Horticultural Society is getting ready for their Annual Gardening Show on Saturday August 16th when all the hard work of the village's green fingered residents is rewarded and all come together to enjoy the fruits of their labours. It is a wonderful cornucopia of colour and flavour, hard work and enthusiasm and well worth a visit from all who enjoy beautiful things.

The show offers something for everyone — 77 categories covering Flowers, Floral Art, Fruit, Vegetables, Planted Outdoor Containers and Produce. There is even a special class for school aged children. There are over 30 trophies, shields and cups to be won. For details of all the individual classes please go to the Show Catalogue. Link:

Show Secretary Chris Slatcher has all the details and she can be contacted on 01829 741389. Entry into the competions is free and there is a modest charge of £1 to enter the show. You can also find details on the schedules in the Post Office, the Chemist and in Jessops. The Show opens at 2.00pm in the Community Centre and refreshments will be available.

So, whether you are a knurled son of the soil, or a newcomer with just a small, new plot, now is the time to get feeding, pruning and talking to you plants to get the very best out of them.

....and may the best knobbly parsnip win!
