The Small Room in the Community Centre has just had a spring-clean with a new coat of paint, some replacement carpet tiles and a thorough scrub. It is now ready to welcome any group that need a small, private meeting room with excellent parking.

The room is one of three that were part of the Children's Centre that closed earlier in the year. CW&C had no immediate use for the space and offered it to the Community Centre Committee. However, as the annual service charge paid is based on floor area, the Committee were reluctant to take on any extra commitment. After negotiations the Council agreed to licence the space to the Community Centre for a year to test the potential for the three rooms to raise extra income. Two provide extra storage capacity — and a 'box-office' for films and plays — while the largest one has been used for a number of meetings. It is this one that has had the makeover.

Renovations to the Centre continue despite the fact that progress on obtaining grants for large scale improvements seems to take a long and frustrating time. A major grant application to WREN depends on the Committee showing that it can get £5000 of supporting funding from external sources. Half of this has come from a very generous personal donation and the Parish Council is to be approached for the other half. However, even if successful, the results of the request will not be heard until the end of the year.

An application has been made to the Cheshire Community Foundation for money to replace the Edna Rose Room curtains, provide better tables for social events and to redecorate. An answer is expected soon. Though the grant request included a small amount for paint it did not ask for money to undertake the work as this will be done by the Committee, whose enthusiasm for wielding a paint brush now knows no bounds!

If you would like to use the Small Room for any meeting or event, please get in touch with the Chairman on 01829 740868 or go to the website www.tarvincommmunitycentre.org
