Waste Reduction Volunteers; promoting Love Food Hate Waste and Home Composting in your local community.

The Waste Reduction Volunteer Scheme is a joint project between Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Cheshire Councils. It promotes the national ˜Love Food Hate Waste" programme, and ˜Home Composting"

We are looking for volunteers to join the project; and our next training day is being held in Tatton Park, Knutsford on 22nd March 2014. You will gain extensive knowledge around Food Waste and Home Composting and learn how you can help a variety of people in the Cheshire community to make the most of their food, save money and create home compost for a beautiful garden. The training is completely free, and fun!!

We will provide refreshments throughout the day, a buffet lunch, uniform, a detailed handbook, and we are also delighted to offer a tour of the gardens from Tatton Parks' very own Head Gardener.

The volunteer role:

Throughout the project you will be supported by the Project Coordinator and your fellow team of volunteers. As a volunteer you will attend a variety of interesting and exciting events and activities such as:

County shows, farmers markets, food festivals, community/family fun days , delivering workshops in local schools, helping community groups to build and use compost bins, giving presentations to residents in housing associations and working alongside nutritionists for example during community cookery sessions promoting Love Food Hate Waste.

We ask that you complete 30 hours of volunteering per year but you are free to pick and choose which events or activities that suit you best depending on your preference, location or availability. If you know of any events going on in your local area or have any links with community groups, we welcome your suggestions for setting up an activity; the project is extremely flexible. We also offer an incentive scheme for voluntary hours; you are entitled to gifts when you put in extra hours. Additional to this, we hold regular social events and occasionally offer additional (optional) training.

If you are interested in meeting and talking to residents in your community face to face, delivering sessions in schools or have a keen interest in the environment and reducing waste then this is a perfect project for you to get involved in.

Other info:

Applicants must be 18 years or over.
Applicants must live in Cheshire.
