The Lady in the Van

Last night (18th Dec.) Tarvin Community Centre set a new record. In the past it has been the early Family Film that has lead the charge in terms of audiences levels. Last night however, the last film night before Christmas, it was the adult performance at 8.00pm that had the committee racing around to get extra chairs. In the end we had an audience of 145 to see The Lady in the Van, starring Maggie Smith as Miss Shepherd and Alex Jennings as Alan Bennett. The previous adult Friday Film Night record was set by Philomena starring Judy Dench when 119 came along.

Interestingly, both these film featured actresses who qualify for that peculiar title — 'national treasure!'

In June 1991 villagers refused to be downhearted by what was described as "appalling weather" and hence helped to still raise £1,500 at the 20th Tarvin Carnival. Half way through, and how many gnomes have you found?Its been wonderful watching so may people walking around the village, trying to find the most elusive of the 76 gnomes.
