Many residents will have seen the yellow notices announcing the anticipated road works that will affect the western end of the High Street, from the junction with Hockenhull Lane to the junction with the A54. Some may also be aware that this involves the closure of this part of the road to traffic for quite a long period of time. There is no doubt that access to and from Tarvin is going to get a bit difficult from March 7th.

The purpose of the road closure is to completely resurface the pavement and replace the kerbstones on the south side of this road – see plan. The pavement has been dug up on a number of occasions and is in a very bad state of repair. Bringing it up to a good standard will be much appreciated by the many pedestrians who use this busy route to and from the village.

The Parish Council has received the following information from the Engineer in charge. The closure will only be from 8.00am until 17.00om on weekdays only. During the evenings and weekends the road will be open as usual, but the closure does affect buses as well as cars. However the Engineer confirms that, as the work progresses, they will consider creating a one-way system to ease the traffic flow.

Tarvin is fortunate that it has three access points and the closure of one may create frustration and some delay, but hopefully not total chaos.

Councillor Sue Hardacre says "In these times of financial constraints I am delighted that Tarvin is to receive some investment into its physical infrastructure. I am sure I won't be the only one who has to drive a little further to get to places in the next three weeks but I am sure that I will be very pleased with the finished result"

Sue also added a plea to motorists who park on this stretch of road "When the work is completed I do hope that some car owners will stop parking half on and off the pavement. I am sure they believe they are helping other motorists, but it is perfectly legal to park on that bit of the road and, if a car has to waiting for oncoming traffic to pass, then we are talking about 10/15 seconds of someone's time. The road should be for cars and the pavement for pedestrians. Perhaps the new kerb will be high enough to deter this annoying practice."
