On Wednesday 4th July, St Andrews Women's Group paid a visit to Abbeywood . On a perfect summers day we were given a conducted tour of these spectacular gardens by the Head Gardner and his assistant.

Since they first opened, these family owned gardens have undergone many changes and been enlarged to make it the peaceful haven that it is today. From formal rose gardens, oriental gardens, herbaceous beds, vegetable and cut flower gardens to open parkland there is so much to see and admire.

Some of the vegetables and fruit grown will be used in the restaurant or sold in the shop. Cut flowers are grown to be used in the wedding venue as well as sold. Our questions were answered in a way to inspire and encourage us to all do a bit more gardening and find enjoyment in it.

After a much needed rest for shade in one of the pergolas we made our way back to the caf' for our very welcome tea and cake. A very successful and enjoyable afternoon for our group.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday September 5th at 7.30 when our speaker will be Stephen Hildreth. We look forward to seeing you there.
