Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Market fund-raising coffee morning and cake sale last Saturday at which we raised just over £180 to go towards the organisation and running of this year's Christmas Market. This is the best result ever — just exceeding our previous coffee morning when we raised just under £180.

There are always a lot of people to say 'thank you' to when organising a fund-raising event.
A special thank you must go to the Methodist Church for letting us hold the event on their premises. Thank you to all those who baked cakes, gave raffle prizes and a thank you again to those who supported us.

A reminder yet again that the Christmas Festival and Market is being held on Saturday, 5 December, in the High Street from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm so do please put it in your diary and bring family and friends along. It promises to be a great event.

We would at this stage like to draw everyone's attention to the fact that the Tarvin High Street will be closed from 12 noon to 11.00 pm on Saturday, 5 December. To keep everyone safe the road has to be closed during the erection of the market stalls, the electrical installation, the event itself, the taking down of the stalls and the tidying up afterwards. This inevitably takes a long time so please bear with us. The High Street will be closed from the junction with Hockenhull Lane to the junction with Church Street. The road closure will be controlled by Amberon, a specialist road management company.

We do hope that this will not cause anyone too many problems and that everyone will feel that the fun of the event itself will more than compensate for any inconvenience.

Travellers of all kinds have used Platts Lane for thousands of years. On foot was the major form of passage but also on horseback, on small carts or in carriages, as well as packhorses and farm animals. In recent times it was even proposed to build a road through this historic place. How could a council imagine this was a good idea?Thankfully, it remains a quiet by-way for walkers, cyclists...
