Tarvin resident and former West Cheshire College student Angharad Hayes was highly commended in the Level 3 Personal Trainer category of AoC Sport's 2015 Fitness Trainer Competition.
She has since helped demonstrate the competition – now named the World Skills UK Fitness Trainer Competition – to more than 100,000 people at last week's Skills Show at Birmingham's NEC.

Angharad commented :"The competition had a massive impact on myself as a Personal Trainer. I had to research a lot of different techniques, manage my timekeeping for the timed session and practice correct form by seeking advice from my college tutors, whom regulate the high standard of the qualification. This had to be done for the first round of the competition before we had covered the topics in the classroom. Therefore, competitors must use their own initiative and drive to learn ahead of the scheduled course classes. This gave me an edge in classroom! The three rounds of the competition also prepared me for my final PT exam.
Out in the industry, the competition increased my knowledge of different techniques, increased my confidence, provided accurate constructive feedback from externals in order to become an excellent PT and raised my profile. I'm also in this month's PT Magazine! "
"Since the competition I have been working as a successful Personal Trainer at a reputable Hotel Gym; the Club and Spa at Double Tree Hilton, Chester. Having worked there for nearly a year, I have recently decided to freelance as a Personal Trainer and run my own group exercise classes; Metafit, currently run in the Scout Hut twice a week, which is proving to be a great success(details can be found on my emberfit page www.emberfit.co.uk). I absolutely love my job!"
