Tarvin Rex 2017-18

Our local football team Tarvin Rex have made an excellent start to the 2017-18 season with a series of impressive results.

A pre-season friendly saw them dust off their boots and take on AFC Leopard from Nantwich. In what was a tense nil-nil draw, Leopard dominated the game, but the Tarvin defence was up to the challenge and resolutely defended their goal to keep the clean sheet — man of the match on this occasion was Tom Axon.

The first game of the season proper took place at Tarvin's home pitch the "Field of Dreams" when they took on the Travellers Rest from Ellesmere Port. A sensational scoreline saw Tarvin triumph 9-0 with goals from Jonny Hallam (4), Ben Thorp (2) , Ryan Cartwright (2) and Tom Axon meant at the end of week one Tarvin were top of the League!

The second game of the season took place at Newton Chester when the Rex took on Dee Rangers — a stunning 3-0 win saw Neil Astbury score either side of half time, and Ryan Cartwright also made the score sheet.

The latest game that the team have played was in the Bill Gresty Cup (designed solely for Section B sides). It was a tense and entertaining 4-4 draw against CDS Flooring from Ellesmere Port (at the end of extra time!) with Tarvin's goals coming from Jonny Hallam (2), Ryan Cartwright and Harry Huxtable. With it being a cup competition and with the scores being equal after extra time a penalty shoot out was in order. The penalties going Tarvin's way 5-4 with goalkeeper Sam Felows saving the final CDS penalty to prompt wild celebrations on the Tarvin sideline!

Further updates on the team's progress will follow through the course of the season
