On the 18th September, Tarvin Tennis Club held its final American Tournament of 2016. Overall winners were Felicity Pochin (in pink top) and Chris Lowe (3rd from left on back row).

Ed: An American Tournament, also known as a Round-Robin Tournament (or all-play-all tournament) is a competition "in which each contestant meets all other contestants in turn". It contrasts with the more elimination, or knockout tournaments. In a single American Tournament schedule, each participant plays every other participant once. In theory, a round-robin tournament is the fairest way to determine the champion among a known and fixed number of participants. Each participant, player or team, has equal chances against all other opposites. The element of luck is seen to be reduced as compared to a knockout system since bad performances need not cripple a competitor's chance of ultimate victory. The main disadvantage of a round robin tournament is the time needed to complete it. Just thought you might like to know.
