A Parkgate guided tour by Anthony Annakin Smith on the 27th March was a great day out despite the appalling weather which meant that the talk had to take place in the Old Quays coffee shop. Afterwards a very pleasant lunch was had at the boat

WI Quiz Team travelled to the Final for a very relaxed sociable evening. The team were very proud of their performance despite not winning.

The Strollers were lucky with the weather when they went to the Daffodil Farm at Whitegates to see the daffodils in bloom. This was followed by a leisurely walk around the area before enjoying coffee and delicious cake outside in the sunshine at the farm.

After singing Jerusalem at the opening of the monthly meeting, President Margaret Matthews observed that it was the Centenary Anniversary of the day that the WI Hymn was sung for the very first time. The Speaker, Robert Pepper, represented the 'Canine Partners' charity and brought smiling faces to the members in the form of his pet Rizzo. This charity is dedicated to helping to transform the lives of disabled people through their amazing dogs. During his talk we watched a presentation showing dogs load a washing machine, retrieve a phone and so much more. The slow process of specialist training costs more than £20,000 but will be life changing for the disabled person. Over 100 puppies are trained each year and training can take up to 15 months. The dogs are retired after 10 years giving them plenty of time to enjoy their retirement. The loveable Rizzo had had a hip displaced during training which meant he was unfit for duty. He is now the pet of Robert and his wife. To celebrated Easter the meeting finished with some delicious Hot Cross Buns to accompany the tea and coffee.

The Distaff Singers will be with us at our next meeting on Wednesday 25th April at 7.30 pm and a number of members have volunteered to make cakes for the event. Visitors are always welcome.

Other planned future events including a trip to see Hairspray in Liverpool, an evening with Jean Martyn at Tarporley, a guided tour of Elizabeth Gaskell House with a visit to Whitworth Art Gallery, and later, an event at Gawsworth Hall in July.
