It's now nearly a month since we updated the home page of Tarvinonline and we hope you are enjoying the new features. We are aware, however, that the view you experience may be different dependant upon the device you are using to access our Website.

Tarvinonline logo

If your means of accessing Tarvinonline is by your desktop computer you will see the layout as intended.

However, nowadays every on-line organisation has to provide for multidevice access, which in practical terms means that we have to provide a similar "experience" whether you are using a Computer, Tablet, or, Smartphone to access Tarvinonline.

This not only means a great deal more work for I/T workers when any changes are made but also that the changes must be able to accommodate three distinctly different screen sizes, and, at the same time try to appear similar in portrait or landscape view!!

The Tarvinonline Home Page when viewed on your Computer can never be replicated on your Smart Phone because it would be so small it would be impossible to read.

Take a look at the "Tarvinonline" header on the home page on your device.

If your are on your Computer, the name, Tarvinonline, is on the left-hand side and the weather symbol is in the centre, and both are against the green background on an imaginary hillside. It will be the same on your Tablet when viewed in Landscape.

However, if you use a Smartphone, or Tablet in Portrait View, then Tarvinonline appears across the village schematic and the hillside has been entirely lost.

The only solution is to put individual items on smaller devices one above the other, starting on the left-hand side for the home page. So if you are on your Smartphone you will first see "What's on" items and then as you scroll down it is followed by the "Latest News" and then the Directories, Business, Clubs and Activities, and finally Local Services.

Just remember if you click on anything the "page " you open will appear at the bottom of the site so "scroll down."

So all the Home Page features are there, but not necessarily in the same order!

We would like to hear from our readers as to whether they have noticed any other differences, like for instance that the "weather" seems to have gone missing on the smartphone version

Travellers of all kinds have used Platts Lane for thousands of years. On foot was the major form of passage but also on horseback, on small carts or in carriages, as well as packhorses and farm animals. In recent times it was even proposed to build a road through this historic place. How could a council imagine this was a good idea?Thankfully, it remains a quiet by-way for walkers, cyclists...
