Our Monthly Meeting was on 28th June at Tarvin Community Centre. Our President welcomed everyone including two visitors. After the business was concluded she introduced our speaker Karen Van Hoff a self-taught artist and designer/maker who told us a funny, frank and inspiring tale of what can happen if you enter a WI competition by mistake!

Karen, a self-confessed precocious child was brought up in Singapore, married young and lived with her mother-in-law, President of the Ludlow WI. Karen went on to create stunning millinery from her workshop in Ludlow, Shropshire as Hardy Hall Hats. After remarrying and the birth of her second child, Karen moved on to her next venture, Van Hoff Designs, creating exquisite wedding accessories for some of the UK's top bridal designers combining delicate wirework and semi-precious stones to create a unique range of tiaras and jewellery. She knits and embroiders with fine wire, gems and pearls to create her unique fine art, couture jewellery.

Her work has sold in shops and galleries from Shropshire to Hong Kong. Accompanying her talk was a display of artwork: beautiful hand embroidered textiles, a gorgeous selection of jewellery and a portfolio of images. Karen was a very entertaining and engaging speaker.

After Karen's very entertaining and engaging talk we welcomed Harry Bradley, husband to Joan, a WI member for over 40 years. Joan and Harry have been married for 60 years and members enjoyed a glass of sparkling wine and a piece of cake to help them celebrate the occasion.

Our next WI meeting is on Wednesday 26th July and will be a 'Member's Night'. Pamela Royle will attend the meeting, she was sent to live in Tarvin as a evacuee during the war.

Why not come as a visitor and meet your local WI. Please contact Irene Wilkinson 01829 740868 or website Tarvinwi.co.uk if you require any further details
