Tarvin Community Woodland Trust ....
It's Tarvin's Plant Sale time again!
Tarvin village is fortunate in a number of community-wide "events" – the Christmas Market, November's Craft Fair, the Summer Fete and, of course, the annual Plant Sale – that are run by the community. Such events help to make Tarvin the vibrant village that it is. Our plant sale is the principal fundraiser for the upkeep of Tarvin Community Woodland and it is also an opportunity for villagers to talk to the Trustees about the development of a woodland that is hugely important to so many members of our community.
This year's plant sale is on tomorrow, Saturday 11th May, and runs from 10.00am to Mid-day.
The frontage of Tarvin Methodist Church, in the middle of the High Street, will be taken over by a huge display of plants of all descriptions, grown and provided by the people of Tarvin. There will be annuals, bedding plants, perennials of all descriptions, shrubs of many varieties, a wide range of vegetable plants and tomatoes, some houseplants and, doubtless, many others! The display in front of Chapel is so impressive that folk have been known to get off passing buses, in order to buy plants. One lady had to be helped to get her plants onto the next bus by two of the Trustees. We don't know what happened to her when she wanted to get off!
The plant sale is an excellent example of a collaboration between two village organisations. Tarvin Methodist Church has been a supporter of Tarvin Community Woodland Trust since its inception in 2008 and has always hosted its coffee mornings. For the plant sales, things are slightly different – the plants OUTDOORS raise money for the woodland but, INDOORS, the coffees, teas, cake and the (justifiably famous) bacon baps all raise money for the Chapel – a wonderful example of a mutually beneficial collaboration!
Tarvin village is unique in having a woodland that is completely owned and run by its villagers – it is truly a "Community Woodland"! Since the owners are all of the villagers themselves (albeit ownership being vested in the Trust, for legal purposes), it is important that the members of the community can express their views on how the woodland is being run and developed. Chatting with Trustees over a cup of coffee is the ideal way of making sure that your ideas are being heard!
All the details of the Plant Sale & Coffee Morning are on the attached poster.
