George Pilkington, manages to multi-task being an ecologist, environmental educationist, researcher and inventor. He established Nurturing Nature in 2000 . After years of painstaking wild bumblebee and solitary bee observations and experimentations, George has created the award-winning Nurturing Nature Bumblebee Nest Box and Solitary Bee Observation Nest Box. George, his garden, and solitary bee nest boxes were seen on the very popular BBC2 TV programme, The Wild Gardener.
George has given many presentations in the local area to great acclaim. His talks on all things ecology, wildlife, bees and nature are known for being inspiring, interesting and entertaining.
With the dramatic decline in wild bee populations, George has focused his research on the nesting behaviour of wild bumblebees and wild cavity nesting solitary bees, gaining insights into increasing the wild bee populations and species in his own garden as well as the wider countryside.
One way to attempt to arrest this decline has been the delivery of these inspiring presentations.
George uses his own wildlife and organic garden as a case study. As a step change has been his invention of innovative practical and educational bee boxes. Thesehave been widely distributed throughout the world. It is hoped that the information on his website, his interesting and informative presentations and the distribution of wild bee boxes from Nurturing Nature will contribute to educating people and increasing the global wild bee population.
George has an MSc. in Countryside Management and a Certificate in Education.
