Following a report from Cheshire Police regarding a road collapse on A556 Shurlach Road in Lostock Gralam, an emergency road closure was put in place to make the area safe.
The A556 is now closed between the A559 Manchester Road and A530 King Street roundabout in a westbound direction.
Following site investigations, works are needed to repair a damaged drainage pipe in the carriageway which has caused the road to collapse.Due to the depth of the drainage pipe and its close proximity to the centre line, the road will need to remain closed for safety reasons while the repair works are carried out.
These emergency repairs works are being co-ordinated with the aim to re-open the road as soon as possible. It is expected that the road will need to remain closed this week, so that the works can be undertaken safely.
A signed diversion route is being put in place using A559 Manchester Road, A533 Kingsmead and A556 Shurlach Road. All current roadworks on the diversion route have been assessed and if possible, utility companies have been asked to remove any traffic management to help reduce disruption.Highways teams will continue to monitor all the major junctions on the diversion routes and will consider whether any traffic signal timings alternations or manual control would be beneficial to help traffic flows in the area.
