The Jim Grogan Award is a prize for the children of Tarvin school. It is a prize that aims to encourage them to learn and to enjoy finding out more about the life that exists in the countryside surrounding the school. Jim died before the scheme could be established but the Woodland Trustees carried on the work, setting up the Countryside and Wildlife Award in Jim's name.
The citation for Zac, which is on view in the memorial book displayed in the school foyer, sets out some of the reasons that Zac was chosen. He has a very good knowledge of local birds and woodland animals, being particularly interested in the swallows, crows, house martins, blue tits, wagtails, sparrows, pheasants and squirrels. He cares for them, replenishing the feeders and water containers in his garden regularly.
Zac was considered to be a worthy recipient and was presented with his Award Plaque Certificate (see top picure) and Book Token by the Woodland Trustees at a special whole-school assembly in the school hall on Wednesday 1st October. The lower picture shows Zac with his parents and trustees of the Woodland Trust.
