The Community Centre Committee is delighted to announce that the floor on the stage has been finished and thus the renovation of the stage is completed.

Sue Hardcare, Vice Chair said "We were able to get the stage curtains replaced during the lockdown, but the issue of the stage flooring generated quite a lively debate. Given the many uses that the stage is put to, it was originally thought that a hard-wearing carpet might be the best solution. But consultation with some users suggested that a hard floor with better acoustic qualities might meet a wider range of performance needs. After obtaining three quotes, we finally decided on using Maltby's of Chester to undertake the work. We were pleased with their response and are delighted with the result of their workmanship. That we have the financial resources to do this work, despite the reduction in income due to the Corvid pandemic, is a tribute to the wonderful support we have had from the village in recent years"

The stage floor was quite uneven so it was decided that a ply-wood subfloor would be needed to give a smooth surface. To reduce the amount of noise that might be generated from footfall, an acoustic underlay was then put down and this was covered with a tough, non-slip, black textured vinyl. With proper care such a surface should last many years.

Sue said "Of course, what we would love to see now are theatrical productions on the stage. Cheshire Rural Touring Arts are starting to put together a menu for next year and I know that Ashton Hayes Theatre Club are champing at the bit to get going again. We would love to be able to offer musical, choral or dance performances again but appreciate that this may take a while. But the renovation of the stage makes Tarvin Community Centre able to be a centre for the arts in rural West Cheshire not just next year, but in the years to come."

If anyone wishes to use the stage for rehearsals or performances – within the current guidelines – they are welcome to approach the Booking Secretary who will be delighted to help. If it can be done, it will be done. Call 07946 798831 or use the website www,tarvincommunitycentre.org
