The Parish Council has received confirmation that the amount of New Homes Bonus coming to the Parish for 2014 will be £5,705. This is the money received from a central government grant paid to local authorities where residential development takes place. A proportion of the grant – 20% in the case of CW&C – is paid to the parish in which the development takes place, with the rest going to general local council funds.

This payment is in respect of new housing growth in the period Oct 2010 to October 2013. As there has been a significant growth in housing since October 2013 the Parish Council expects this amount to rise in the future. Indeed, it is possible to take all the anticipated New Homes Bonus in advance if the Parish has need of a significant amount for a major project. With the demand for a car park becoming more urgent, especially as the village grows, this is an option that the Parish Council will investigate more fully in the New Year.

The New Homes Bonus received last year, a sum of £3,518, has been spent on:
A defibrillator – £765.00
3 new Highways signs (not yet installed) – £1,295.00
Speeding Assessment in Oscroft £1,458.00

The Parish Council will be looking at projects that will benefit the community to spend the New Homes Bonus on and would welcome suggestions from the public. However they are also very aware that, with a further reduction in central grants to local authorities, and with the uncertainties that come with a General Election, there may well be calls on Parish income for services currently provided by CW&C. In these uncertain financial times the Parish Council is pleased to have the New Homes Bonus available to look after local needs.
