On This Day in 1909: Geronimo dies of pneumonia at age 80, while still in captivity at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Geronimo was the leader of an Apache tribe of Native Americans. He was born in Mexico in 1829. As a boy, he was a talented hunter often getting praise from the rest of his tribe. Native American legends state that he ate the heart of the first animal he killed to ensure that he would always be successful at hunting. The Apaches were known for raiding other tribes, and by the age of 17, Geronimo had led several successful raids. Several years later, Geronimo's wife, mother, and children were killed during a raid on his village by Mexican soldiers.
When the government pushed onto their property, Geronimo retaliated, and battle continued for years before the Apaches were finally forced to surrender and taken as prisoners of war.

On This Day in 1938: The first color television was demonstrated at the Dominion Theatre in London.

It was not until 1966 that the BBC announced plans to begin broadcasting television programmes in colour from 1967.
Britain was the first country in Europe to offer regular programming in colour.

On This Day in 1966: Nancy Sinatra was at No.1 on the UK singles chart.

Nancy was no 1 with 'These Boots Are Made For Walking', Frank's eldest daughters' first No.1. Written by Lee Hazlewood Sinatra's recording of the song was made with the help of Los Angeles session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew.
