On Friday August 13th the new table tennis tables were given their first outing at the Community Centre. Six members of the public joined a couple of Committee members to try their skills. One or two were regular players, but for the others, it was a new experience. Some had played as children, or remembered playing occasionally on holiday.

Vice Chair Sue Hardacre said "This is the start of a brand-new activity at the Community Centre and we expect it to become a regular event. It is the intention that, after a short time, there will be a nucleus of keen players and a 'club' will develop that will become self-supporting. At that point there will be a charge for the Hall (currently £11.71 per hour) and a small charge will be made for players to participate to cover the cost."

The next open session will be held at 11.30 am on Friday 20th August and everyone is welcome. Though primarily offered as an adult activity, children will be welcome during the holidays to these open sessions if they are accompanied by an adult. The Committee regrets that it can't offer sessions at this time for unaccompanied children.

Other sessions on a Monday and Wednesday will become available if the demand increases.

Sue says "Table tennis has grown in popularity in recent years, especially among older people. It might seem like there is little chance for much exercise, but it is amazing how many calories you use up chasing that small ball around the room!"
