Tarvin Online Faces Closure

An extraordinary meeting has been scheduled to attempt to save our village website.
Venue: Tarvin Community Centre, Meeting room
Date: 16th April 2025
Time: 7 pm to 9 pm

The Tarvin Online webpage has been running for 12 years. A small team of volunteers has maintained the website and its associated social media sites. Until recently, the aim was to upload a new article every day of the year except Christmas.

We are down to only one volunteer. As you can see from the list of tasks below, this is too much for one person. Besides, a site like this needs more than one voice. The website needs at least three volunteers to ensure it can continue. If the Website closes, Tarvin will lose a valuable legacy of history about the village and a useful source of information for those who live here, are looking to move here, or are visiting the area.

An extraordinary meeting will be held at Tarvin Community Centre, Meeting room, on Wednesday, April 16th, from 7 pm to 9 pm. Please send an email to editor@tarvinonline.org if you are interested in volunteering, and come along to find out how it works and how you could help.

A Tarvin Webteam member needs:
An understanding of Social Media, benefits, risks, privacy, GDPR, etc.
A Facebook and WhatsApp account.
A Good grasp of English (to enable editing)

A willingness and commitment to:
Learn new software applications.
Use desktop software such as Word (Windows) / Pages (Mac)
Familiarity with email (attaching files, photos, etc.)
Good organisational skills / Attention to detail
Edit images and photos (basic cropping and resizing)

Typical Webteam tasks:
Review incoming emails in the TOL system on a regular basis, replying where relevant
Develop articles based on incoming emails
Edit and add images to the image library and articles
Review live postings for edits/corrections
Schedule a reference to the article on X and/or Bluesky (optional)
Create and schedule a Facebook version of the article (with images)
Review live Facebook articles for edits/corrections required

Other web team administration tasks
Add items to the website calendar
Update directories for local organisations, clubs, businesses, etc

To be clear, if we cannot find a new Tarvin Webteam to maintain the site, it will have to close, and no further articles will be posted from 1 May.
