When you walk around our village, you cannot fail to notice how many gardens have really lovely displays of flowers in them – displays of which anyone would be proud. And, if you were to go through those flowers, you would find lots of the flowers that would be very deserving of a place in one of the classes in the flower section of the Tarvin Horticultural Show on 13th August.
Some classes may seem a bit specialist – entering a vase of 3 Chrysanthemums might be something that is possible for only a few. But I have seen some wonderful delphiniums in village gardens, any one of which, if cut and put in a vase, would be a contender for a prize. There are lovely pansies, hydrangeas, dahlias, gladioli, marigolds and asters, too, that could be cut and entered. How many of us have a really gorgeous geranium in a pot, blooming its heart out? Enter it – it's worth a try!
There are classes for any vase of cut flowers, for sweet peas, roses, African violets, Fuchsias, plus classes for any pot plants of flowers different from those with classes of their own and for pots with just foliage and no flowers. Almost any flower or pot plant seems to have a chance of being entered! Why not go round your garden and see what you have – I strongly suspect that you might be surprised!
Why not find out what classes there are? Contact the Show Secretary, Ian Levitt, on email@example.com and he will email you a schedule and entry form.
Alternatively, for a paper copy of both, write to Ian Levitt, 2, Field Close, Tarvin, CH3 8DL.
All entries must all be received by Ian before 5pm on Friday, 12th August. All exhibits must be displayed before 11am on the morning of Saturday, 13th August, with judging thereafter being completed by 2pm.
Everyone is then welcome to come to the Community Centre between 2pm and 3.30pm to view the exhibits, with the presentation of Trophies being made at 3.30pm. Adults will pay £2 admission but children accompanying their parent or guardian are admitted free of charge.
As ever, refreshments will be served in the Edna Rose Room.
