I was told first at school then again at work that you should never start a note with a confession. Well times have changed and the Tarvin webteam strive for transparency, integrity and honesty.
If I had achieved the same attendance record at school as I have at Tarvin Parish Council meetings then my report would have recorded me as lying somewhere between dismal and abysmal. Times have changed and it is critical that the Editorial team attend Parish Council Meetings joining a very select band of Parishioners to hear for ourselves what is going on.
There is no way you can discern from the formal minutes ( not approved for another month) what were the pros and cons the councillors had to weigh up before a decision was reached. Without the whole picture it can sometimes be too easy to criticise the outcome. Trust me I've been guilty of that at times.
We are fortunate nowadays that the Council agree on a few key points to be written up as short articles after the meeting. These are issued to Tarvinonline in the following few days for publication straight away.
However an even better option than waiting for these notes to come out is to find out what is coming up at the next Council meeting so that you can decide if there are Agenda items you would like to come and hear discussed as it happens.
In future we should be able to publish the Agenda ( not quite as long as the paper pile in the picture!) on the Wednesday before the forthcoming Council meeting. This is almost always on the 4th Monday in the month held in the Edna Rose room in the Community Centre. In August however the meeting is on Monday August 19th as the 26th is a Bank Holiday in the UK. Meetings start at 7.15pm with a 15 min public session where residents can air issues, for the Council to consider. Points raised can be relevant to an agenda item or a stand alone issue. This is your only opportunity to say something during the meeting and Councillors sit there and listen without commenting!
Planning applications known to the Parish Clerk at the time of issue that are up for Council consideration are also listed.
You can join and leave the meeting when you like so why not give it a go when an agenda item next takes your interest.
The Editor will enjoy your company on the public benches!
