The July meeting of St Andrews Women's Group marked the last gathering before the summer break and, as has become tradition, the occasion was celebrated with an outing to a local venue. This year, members chose to visit The Walk Mill at Waverton, where they enjoyed a guided tour and afternoon tea.

The history of Walk Mill is a fascinating one. The centuries-old mill had fallen into a state of disrepair and was demolished in 1965, before being carefully rebuilt on its original footprint by the current owners. During excavations, many original artefacts and components were unearthed and incorporated into the reconstruction, with a number of these still in working order today. A knowledgeable member of the owning family was our guide, providing an excellent tour and explaining in detail how the mill operates.

The Walk Mill remains very much a working mill and arable farm, producing high-grade flour from its own grain. The surrounding grounds offer plenty to enjoy, including chickens, ducks, woodland walks along the River Gowy, and the beautiful Cheshire countryside. The group found it a superb location to relax and unwind, and considered it perfect for all the family.

The afternoon tea was equally impressive, with wonderful cakes, scones, and bread all made using Walk Mill flour. These products are also available to purchase on site. Sincere thanks were extended to the guide and all the staff for their warm hospitality.

The group's next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 2nd September at 7 pm in the Parish Room. Members wish everyone a happy summer break.
