Sunday, 13 September, saw the culmination of Tarvin Tennis Club's summer season when the finals of the annual club tournament were played in fine weather. The finals were watched by a good number of club members, friends and supporters and as usual there were a number of competitive matches.

The results in brief were:

Peter Nosworthy won the men's singles yet again although he was made to fight hard by Graham Bunting who held a good lead in the first set but was unable to prevent Peter from gaining a well merited victory.

Last year's ladies' singles champion, Sarah Mitchell, was on this occasion defeated by Wendy Rae who has been a prolific winner of the singles over the years.

Sarah suffered further disappointment when she and Shanti Pinto were defeated in the ladies' doubles by Jane Wilson and Rhian Perry

Rhian's good form continued into the final of the mixed doubles when she and her partner, Amit Tauro, beat Daniel Sherwin and Barbara Francis in three sets in the closest of day's matches.

Mention should be made of Chris Edwards, Julia Burgess and the playing committee for organising the event and for arranging the fine weather!

As the summer season draws to a close it is worth mentioning that the club has an active winter programme of competitive and social tennis. It is still not too late to join if you are contemplating doing so and the club will be prepared to adjust the annual subscription accordingly.
