GEORGE & DRAGON – A NEW START

There's no denying that it's been a roller coaster ride for the George & Dragon ever since it was refurbished a few years ago. Managers have come and gone with surprising regularity. So will the new team prove to be the exception to the rule and bring a period of stability for the customers?

Well if experience is anything to go by there would appear to be a good chance. The new lease holder is Richard Chamberlain (on the right below) who is currently operating the Dunham Arms but in the past has spent six years managing the two restaurants at the Grosvenor Hotel in Chester, been general manager at Crabwall Manor, and worked at Oddfellows Hall also in Chester. His life-long involvement with the hospitality industry started when he was still at school and when he used to do part-time work at Rowton Hall and later in his career he won the Young Waiter of the Year Award! He has even been a resident of Tarvin in the recent past and so has some claim to local knowledge of the area from the other side of the bar.

Richard will be backed by a small core team which will include Moe Jones as Assistant Manager(on the left in the picture), Shaun Done as Head Chef, and Kieran Morris as Bartender. This will be Shaun's second period at the George & Dragon because he was the chef in the early days after its refurbishment. In addition to this nucleus of staff, Richard expects to provide full and part-time employment for between 15 to 20 local people.

Richard said "the restaurant service will begin from the first of October with quality country pub fare and regular mid-week offers for customers." The bar will have the usual range of interesting beers, but in addition, Moe Jones is going to be tempting customers to try out a range of cocktails.

The George & Dragon has 6 bedrooms and these are currently being redecorated in a boutique style. These are also set to re-open for booking by October.

Richard said "we want the George & Dragon to be led by the community and to this end I shall be putting a suggestion box on the bar so we can get feedback as to what sort of events our customers want us to provide. The chequered history of the George & Dragon has resulted in quite a bit of negativity towards it in Tarvin, but all we ask now is that the community gives us a chance and judges on the results."
