From Ashton Hayes & Tarvin Flower club ...

We were well supported for our 1st meeting of the new season and unusually welcomed 2 demonstrators. They were Betsi Davies and Kath Jones, both from Wrexham. Their title was It Takes Two and they started by singing the song, with some help from the audience.

The ladies had met through a flower club despite finding out later that they had both taught at schools which were very close. Flowers were difficult to access this week with Mothering Sunday being last weekend but they managed very well and used much foliage from gardens and hedgerows.

They worked alternatively and had different styles. Kath concentrated on the Spring season with a birch twig covered container holding a selection of colourful spring flowers. She represented Easter with a large hoop and an emphasis on mauve and yellow flowers. Her final design in a large urn was an all green arrangement for St. Patrick's day.

Betsi, who only passed her test last year concentrated on natural designs inspired by the outdoors. Her 1st one was on a lovely wooden stile which had been made for her. It had horizontal blossoms and deep pink gerbera, very striking. The 2nd outdoor design represented a waterfall and finally a triple design standing in a heavy bark base.

They amused us with stories from teaching days. The raffle had many choices as several of the designs were split up.

Refreshments and chat followed with homemade Eater cakes.

Thanks go to Mary Mayes for the photographs.

April 10th will be our next meeting with Mark Entwistle demonstrating Botanical Art. 7-30 pm in The Edna Rose room at the Community Centre.
