Last week, we wrote about our planned "Ice Cream Parlour" to be held on Saturday 24th August. It was due to take place in the garden of a house in Deansway and would be totally dependent upon good weather for its success. We knew that folk just wouldn't come if the weather wasn't good.

Saturday couldn't have been better: the day dawned clear, bright and warm, the sun shone from a blue sky all day and the garden looked most festive with bunting criss-crossing from side to side. Preparations were exceedingly thorough – not only was there an amazing choice of flavours (including 'ice cream' for the dairy-intolerant) but there were also masses of different fruits, chopped up small, together with loads and loads of different toppings, cones and wafers, ready to make ice cream cornets, sundaes and knickerbockers glories (in their very tall glasses) to everyone's requirements.

And the people came – and continued coming. The garden had been set out with chairs and these were all soon filled, with extras being brought in – and then immediately occupied. Sun hats were the order of the day and the cooling ice cream was just what everyone needed. The queue for the ice creams didn't seem to diminish and I know that at least a few people went around twice! Because the event was intended as a fund-raiser for Tarvin Methodist Church, there was no charge for the ice cream but there was a pot for people to make any donation that they felt would be appropriate.

There was no accurate count made but a fair estimate of the number of people who came, devoured ice cream and sat and enjoyed both the sunshine and the company was at least 60. They were also immensely generous people, because the pot containing the donations held just over £500 – a superb outcome and one which thrilled all involved. Once again, Tarvin folk turned out to support other Tarvin folk who were trying to help a good cause. I think that this is a measure of our community. Thank you, Tarvin. And thank you, Barbara and Derek, for arranging for your home to be used in this way.
