Friday, 23rd June is the last opportunity to come along to the Friday Film Night at Tarvin Community Centre before a two month summer break based to allow everyone be out and about enjoying the sunshine!

Our offering for the family film is a fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs. It is based on The Smurfs comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo and many critics considered it an improvement over the previous Smurfs live-action/animated films.

A mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!

The rating is PG for some mild action and rude humor, and the run-time is 91 minutes. doors open at 17.30 for 18.00 start.

The adult film is Their Finest. It is a comedy, drama, romance set in London in 1940. With the nation bowed down by war, the British ministry turns to propaganda films to boost morale at home. Realizing their films could use "a woman's touch," the ministry hires Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton) as a scriptwriter in charge of writing the female dialogue. Although her artist husband looks down on her job, Catrin's natural flair quickly gets her noticed by cynical, witty lead scriptwriter Buckley (Sam Claflin). Catrin and Buckley set out to make an epic feature film based on the Dunkirk rescue starring the gloriously vain, former matinee idol Ambrose Hilliard (Bill Nighy). As bombs are dropping all around them, Catrin, Buckley and their colourful cast and crew work furiously to make a film that will warm the hearts of the nation.

The consensus of the critics was that the film was carried along by a winning performance from Gemma Arterton and that Their Finest combines comedy and wartime drama to audience-pleasing effect.

The rating is R for some language and a scene of sexuality and the run-time is 117 minutes. Doors open at 19.30 for a 20.00 start.
