Settling Down with a Good Book

A local Book Group is looking for new members to join them in an informal setting to read, enjoy and discuss a wide range of interesting literature. The group started about 9 years ago and has gained and lost members over the intervening years, but now finds itself with only a handful of members left.

Sue Hardacre, who has been a member for 5 years, says, "Exchanging ideas and viewpoints about a book adds some extra pleasure and focus to the act of reading. While we look to books that have a wide appeal, titles are also chosen to get members reading genres they might otherwise ignore."

Members meet in each other's houses once a month and the summer holidays and Christmas are celebrated in a very sociable way. Books are chosen by mutual agreement and the member whose choice comes up introduces the subsequent discussion. The last book on the menu was The Power by Naomi Alderman and the next, on September 25th, will be Days Without End by Sebastian Barry.
