St Andrews Women's Group – November Meeting Report

We were pleased to welcome several guests at our November meeting of the St Andrews Women's Group. There was an almost record attendance to listen to the adventures of the Rev Adam Friend and his family on his recent sabbatical and visit to Uganda.

Starting his sabbatical by being able to spend more time with his family, followed by a fund raising cycle ride and culminating in the marvellous trip to a school in Uganda where as a family they received a warm welcome. Not purely a social visit but a practical one where they were able to help this very financially stretched school with many gifts sent from donors in Tarvin.

This is such a poor school that all gifts, including the purchase of bunk beds for the children who board at the school made such a difference to their lives. Fund raising now continues to build accommodation so that teachers can live on site rather than travel many hours each day to the school. Building has already started with funds being sent out gradually as soon as the money is available.

Our thanks to Adam for enlightening us as to the very poor conditions suffered by children in Nigeria and to the fund raising that we can all help with to make such a difference to their lives. We wish him and the Bufunda Primary School well.
