In February 1998, Tarvin Primary School received the ultimate approval for high standards when Chris Woodhead, Government Chief Inspector wrote to staff informing them that they are among the top schools in the country based on 1996/97 inspections. Of 7,000 school inspections by OFSTED over 12 months 159 were singled for special praise and Tarvin was one of only just 82 primary schools nationwide to be named on the list.
The photograph shows acting headteacher Susan Walters, and former headteacher Glyn Turner, who left the school in 1997, with the letter from Chris Woodhead recognising the school's outstanding work.
