President Margaret Matthews opened the meeting with a special welcome to all, especially the Acton Distaff Singers who had come to entertain us for the evening. She reminded us that Tarvin WI was 95 years old in February and we gave ourselves a round of applause.

Events in April Included:

Hairspray the Musical
Lyn reported on the journey to Liverpool by train, then the very interesting visit to the Walker Art Gallery where we learnt how the history of fashion had involved the city trading in cotton, silk, indigo and slaves. A pleasant lunch al fresco was then followed by Hairspray, a magnificent musical. The house was full, the atmosphere electric and the artists very talented. Everyone agreed it was a fantastic trip and the day was awarded full marks.

Ladies who Lunch

Six members attended the literary lunch on the 19th April at the Cheshire View. They were treated to a delightful 3 course meal and the speaker Sarah Ward, a writer of crime and fiction, explained how she got her inspiration from Agatha Christie and Enid Blyton.

Lunch at the Willington Hall was delicious with the next Luncheon Club meeting planned for the Dysart Arms in Bunbury after a possible tour of St. Boniface.

Distaff Choir

Irene introduced the choir and members joined in singing 'Jerusalem' to start the concert. The choir was accompanied by David Mason and the conductor was Jayne Guest. Members rose to the challenge to name the song and the stage or screen show it came from and found it great fun. It was very pleasant listening to
the choir singing several songs including: 'America' from West Side Story;'Moon River' from Breakfast at Tiffany's; 'My Favourite Things' from The Sound of Music and 'Loving That Man of Mine' from Showboat.
In between, we were entertained by Sandra's poem 'The Annual Holiday' and Sian's poem 'Around The Pump' delivered in a very convincing Welsh accent. The audience participation showed how much the show had been appreciated as did the enthusiastic round of applause.
So Distaff Singers 'A big thank you for the music' and we look forward to the next time.

In the vote of thanks given by Alison she admired the beautiful voices of the choir and their melodious music.

Quite a number of members are looking forward to the forthcoming events in May and planned future events including a visit to see the Terracotta Army in June and Gawsworth Hall in July.

Tarvin WI celebrated the choir's visit with tea, and for an extra treat, we enjoyed a slice of the delicious cakes baked by Heather, Alison, Nancy, Ann, Pam, Janet and Liz.

Margaret wished everyone goodnight and a safe journey home.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 30th May at the earlier time of 7pm.
The topic is Yunnan Adventures with Tee and Mo Evans.Visitors are always welcome.
