2015 was another very successful year for the Cubs. A number of Beavers from the 1st Tarvin Colony have come up to Cubs and our Pack is now operating at capacity level with 30 members. Some of these children will be eligible to move on to Scouts in 2016 so we are proud and pleased to tell you that we are setting up a Scout Troop in September. This means that we will have all three sections in Tarvin, with a team of 10 qualified adults catering for between 60 and 75 children and young people. We will have achieved all this in just three years so we are justly proud of our efforts on behalf of our village.
During the past year the Cubs have been developing their scouting skills as well as working on behalf of our community. The children have learned map skills, pioneering skills, knots, camping skills and semaphore. During the summer months we organized three hikes, went bell boating on the River Dee, lit camp fires, did backwoods cooking and did some athletics.
The Cubs have also done a night time walk through Delamere Forest, learned about food hygiene, cooked indoors and made sushi and truffles. They've learned First Aid, Astronomy, soap carving, painting and decorating and personal safety, both outdoors and indoors and when using mobiles and computers.
In October we went to the Jamboree on the Air (Where the Cubs spoke to scouts from around the world) chatting to scouts in the West Indies in this photo (click to enlarge)

2016 is the 100th anniversary of the start of Cubs and we've got some exciting activities planned to celebrate. We'll be going on our first camp in April and later in the year there will be more hikes and trips to a climbing wall in Manchester and a ski slope in Stoke.
Tarvin Parish Council have kindly given us a grant of £400.00 to help us buy the equipment we need to set up a camp and the Christleton Lodge of Freemasons bought us a dining tent. Thank you so much for helping us.
To further finance our activities, we had a stall at the Christmas Market and we'll be having a Sweet Tombola at the Coffee Morning at the chapel on March 19th. We'll also have some stalls at the Village Fete on June 18th
With so many activities now going on in the Guide and Scout building, we need to make some changes. We have already installed modern heating, laid new floors and decorated the building. Now we are raising money to fit all access toilets and due to the generosity of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire Free Masons, we have received a donation of £1,000 towards this.

Finally, we would like to thank all the parents who have supported us through the year. Without their help none of this would be possible. If you would like to put your child's name down for Beavers, Cubs or Scouts, please contact Jo Richards at jinks1107@aol.com or ring 01829 741474 and 07545255680
Ed: Tarvin owes a great deal to Jo Richards for her efforts and leadership and the tremendous success in bringing Scouting back to Tarvin
