February is not a good month for getting demonstrators to visit as many are also florists and this is their busiest time of the year. Added to this prices for flowers often increase dramatically. We therefore decided that we would call on our own members.
It was roses, roses all the way as 7 members took advantage of Aldi who had cheap red roses. Five actually did demonstrations whilst our Chairman told us many interesting facts associated with St Valentine and the day named after him.
At one stage it was a national holiday. She also told us the meaning of the flowers we were using and others besides. There were also 3 designs provided by members who had arranged them at home, so we had a large raffle.
Arranging flowers alone or in a small group is very different from standing before an audience, however sympathetic and appreciative they might be.
We had a good turnout for our Valentine Surprise. There were no disasters, the finished designs looked very good and the comments afterwards were very positive.
None of the arrangers were concerned about their ideas being copied so photographs of all the designs can be shown.
The March meeting is on the 13th when we welcome Carron White with the title "5 a Day" Are we likely to see fruit and vegetables accompanying the flowers?
We will have to wait and see. 7-30pm as usual in the Edna Rose room at the Community Centre.
