Our new season got off to a good start with a demonstration by Donald Morgan from Aberystwyth. His title "Colour our World"was certainly shown in his 5 designs of very vibrant, varied and almost clashing colours. He explained how he loves colour and feels that any colours will go together -- and he proved it.

The containers he used were simple, baskets, terracotta and a garden urn. In one design he had a large piece of driftwood but he had no fancy accessories -- his flowers said it all.

He told us the names and varieties of all the flowers he used and one photograph shows a blue flower which is a new variety called Gentiana and looked stunning in his large continental design. He used varied flowers and some exotic ones -- all from the Dutch markets. It was sad to see red dahlias which had come from Equador when they should be available from growers in the U.K.

He gave us a good tip for watering flowers which are in floral foam -- put ice cubes on the foam to melt and there will be no mess.

Whilst demonstrating he told us of the trials and tribulations of exhibiting at Chelsea with the logistics of planning for 2 years with other team members who all live miles apart. It was all very hard work but very worthwhile when a gold medal is achieved. He is even considering entering alone next year.

Our October meeting will be by Keith Smithies with the title " Autumn to Advent" He is a long established and successful demonstrator as well as being a teacher and judge so this is a meeting to look forward to. The meeting on October 10th is at 7-30pm in the Edna Rose Room. of Tarvin Community Centre. Visitors will be made very welcome.
