Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC) has issued an infrastructure bulletin which may be of particular interest to some of our readers. A summary is provided below:
Planned Investigation Works starting July 19 through to end August 2026
Winsford Station Bridge is a four-span post-tensioned concrete structure, constructed in the early 1960s, carrying the A54 over the electrified West Coast Main Line, adjacent to Winsford Station.
As a key crossing over critical national rail infrastructure, the bridge plays an
essential role in both the local highway network and the strategic rail network,
making maintenance and inspection particularly sensitive and operationally complex. The required inspections are intrusive and highly specialised.
To enable these works to be carried out safely:
• A lane closure will be in place on the bridge
• Eastbound traffic will be maintained across the bridge
• Westbound traffic will be diverted via the A533 and A5018 (towards Winsford town centre)
This phase of works is expected to last approximately six weeks. The timing has been deliberately aligned with the summer school holidays to help minimise disruption to residents, commuters and local businesses.
More details will follow and a dedicated CWaC webpage for this works program will be made available for online updates.
