Ashton Hayes & Tarvin Flower Club Meeting Report

After months with no meetings it was a lovely surprise when one of our members, Elizabeth Cooke, invited us all for an afternoon in her garden at Clotton Hall on the 26th August. It was wonderful to meet up with friends and chat again.

The raffle proved very popular with several plant and herb planters produced by our hard working Chairman. There was fresh produce to buy from the sales table.

Donations were suddenly given when the ladies saw the mouth-watering array of scones (with clotted cream made in the dairy at Clotton Hall) and cakes off various types to accompany our cup of tea. All this was home-made and provided by Elizabeth, our hostess.

The plan had been to have tea on the lawn with a large tent on standby in case of rain. Unfortunately the tent blew away in the heavy wind the evening before and when retrieved was found to be damaged beyond repair. Luckily for us, however, the weather behaved and stayed dry.

We do not know when we can meet as a group again or when demonstrators will return but Merryn, our Chairman, is doing her best to find possible solutions. In the mean time she is sending out a monthly newsletter with plant related quizzes to keep us thinking.
