The Laramie Project tells the true story of the brutal attack of Matthew Shephard in 1989. Matthew was a gay University of Wyoming student who, who was savagely beaten and left tied to a fence to die. His case ultimately led to the adoption of hate crime laws to be passed.

One year later Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Company visited Laramie six times and spoke to more than 200 people. The result is an engrossing docu-drama that testifies to the seismic impact of a hate crime on a small town to the whole of America. Nearly 20 years later it is still powerfully resonant and relevant to modern society as we know it.

The play also shows Americans at their sentimental best and their god-fearing worst. The Laramie Project will be told through a mix of testimony and live music and despite the subject matter this production has a redemptive quality that will fill you with hope.

Due to the content of this play it may be unsuitable for children younger than 14.
