Cheshire's Police & Crime Commissioner John Dwyer and Cheshire West & Chester Council have welcomed the installation of new average speed cameras along the A41 through Christleton and Waverton.

The four cameras are situated along the A41 between Toll Bar Road at the edge of Great Boughton, and Saighton Lane, Waverton, and will reinforce existing 30mph and 40mph speed limits.

The Commissioner and Cllr Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways & Strategic Transport, went to see the scheme in action.

Police and Crime Commissioner, John Dwyer, said:
"Average speed cameras work and I'm really pleased to see these cameras in place. This project is a direct response to concerns raised by local residents and Council data that showed a need for this type of scheme, and I am grateful to the Council for working in partnership to make this happen.

"Making Cheshire's roads safer is a priority in my Police and Crime Plan. It's also one of the top issues raised with me by residents and I want everyone in Cheshire to be able to benefit from schemes like this if it's suitable for their community. So I hope people will be reassured that if there is proven local need then we will be able to work together to deliver results."

Councillor Karen Shore, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways & Strategic Transport at Cheshire West and Chester Council said:
"It's great news that the new average speed cameras are now in place on this route. Drivers not observing the clear speed limits on this stretch of road has previously resulted in tragic accidents.

"We want to do everything possible to make the borough's roads safer for everyone. I'm delighted that our partnership working will result in a positive difference for road safety in this area."

Christleton and Huntington Councillors Stuart Parker MBE and Mark Williams said:
"We are delighted that the average speed cameras are finally being installed along the A41. We have worked hard with John Dwyer to help secure the funding for the cameras, which will provide an important additional safety measure along this major route in and out of Chester"
