Smiles all round as Scouts Isaac and Fred win the Chester and District Pathfinder Plus trophy at this year's Cheshire Hike.

The Cheshire Hike is one of the premier annual events for Scouting in the local area. The nine Scouting Districts combine resources to put on a two day competition hike for Scouts and Explorer Scouts aged between 10.5 and 18. There are four distances dependant on age with the younger ones in the Pathfinder 30km division carrying day packs and having their tents taken to the campsite, whilst the older Scouts (Pathfinder Plus) and the Explorer scouts travelling between 40 and 60km over the two days with lightweight camping gear.

Over 700 Scouts and Explorers entered this year. Five teams from Tarvin Scouts trained and three entered with excellent results in both Pathfinder and Pathfinder Plus. In addition three of our young leaders competed with teams from Maverick Explorers based in Tarporley, with Harry and Oliver carrying away the Chester and District Explorer trophy and narrowly coming second in the County.

It wasn't all hard slog. The evening campsite near Macclesfield had an outdoor cinema, silent disco and a plentiful supply of chips. The atmosphere over the two days was amazing, friendly and really positive. Don't just take my word for it, there's a video at  here  https://vimeo.com/814021632

To achieve this success has taken a team effort over the last few years with fundraising for equipment, troop nights devoted to taste testing suitable hike meals, getting less lost over the course of many practice walks and expeditions and the really positive attitudes from a bunch of great young people. To see each and every one of our scouts leave the closing ceremony with a broad grin carrying certificates and badges (and a trophy) was absolutely superb. And here's to having even more adventures in 2023 and beyond.
