'Let's talk about... Transport': the future of transport in Cheshire West and Chester

Rose McArthur, Director, Transport and Highways has asked Parish Councillors around Cheshire West and Chester to publicise the recently launched CWaC public engagement exercise on the future of transport in our borough, to inform the ongoing development of the council's new Local Transport Plan.

Transport gives us access to work, education, leisure activities and essential services. It shapes the places we live, impacts our health and wellbeing and is vital to our local economy. In this initial stage of engagement, we want to understand views on the borough's current transport system and how transport can respond to some of the big issues we face locally, to develop a draft vision and priorities for the future of local transport.

The launch is the start of a really important conversation for our borough, relevant to everyone who travels to, from or through Cheshire West, including residents, businesses and a range of local and regional partners.

The Local Transport Plan is an opportunity for the council to make the case for transformative change to address our declared climate and poverty emergencies and other strategic objectives. It is also a catalyst for unlocking transport investment from central government, both for new infrastructure and maintenance activity. It sets a policy framework for all transport modes and operators within the borough, including both passenger and freight transport. As a statutory document set out in the Council's Constitution, the direction we take in our next Local Transport Plan will affect not only the work of colleagues in the Transport & Highways directorate but the way we operate across all parts of the Council.
