Isn't it marvellous the way that chance remarks can result in something quite wonderful? Last year, a young lady passed on the comment that the woodland ought to have its' own Christmas tree, which the many people who use the woodland could decorate. The Trustees discussed the suggestion and agreed that the smaller of the two 'Grogan Yews' at Hockenhull Lane might be made available for people to decorate (carefully – remembering that yew is poisonous.) That first year produced a very well-decorated tree and convinced us that this should become an annual event.
This year, things have been better organised. A board setting out the (few and very simple) rules went up and thereafter so did the decorations. One or two items at a time, the woodland users have added to the display, until, two days before Christmas, it looked like the photograph.
